About Me

My name is Maxime Francoeur and I live in Canada, Quebec, in the city of Montreal. First of all, I am dyslexic, which affects the quality of my writing. My first language is French, but I have professional skills to work and communicate in English. I am an investor whose strategy is based on "value" and special situations.
At the age of 18, I became a poker dealer and professional poker player from 19 to 26. As a result, I was able to deepen my knowledge of probabilities and improve my skills in this area. Today, thanks to investment, I still have the ability to use skills learned such as the "Expected Value (EV+)" and the "kelly criterion" for investment. After a few years, I realized that I didn’t like the lifestyle it required of me and studied software development.
I worked for a few years as a developer with the dream of starting my own start-up. A few years later, I created a start-up with three partners, which was a great adventure and an important source of learning. For a number of reasons, it didn’t work as I would have liked and I left the company. I continued my software developer career as a full-time employee at a video streaming company, the third largest in the world in terms of user traffic. My job is to develop and maintain a marketing system. This works best with three young children. The lifestyle of a start-up, which required more than 70 hours per week, did not suit me anymore.
My investment experience, excluding the years when I only invested in BRK.B and the SP500 (2017-2020), really started in 2020. In fact, since 2021 I started being an active investor.
Even working 35 hours a week, investing is a passion for me and I spend more than 25 hours a week on it. I love reading, which is a great skill in investing, the number of reports we have to read to find a good idea.
I aim to become a full-time private investor by my 40-41th birthday. For now working full-time with a stable salary gives me financial security, especially with a family of 3 children.
My investment universe is Canada and the US.
I focus on micro-caps, but I am open to all types of capitalization as long as there is value to take.
My goal with this Substack is to expose my ideas and become more adept at writing. This skill will certainly help me in the long run.
